Description

Add this sticker to the profile of an American Patriot. Use the 1776 Sticker for soldiers from France and other countries who fought for American Independence or for foreigners who provided aid.

To add this sticker to a profile, place the string similar to the text in Code used: column of Examples table anywhere in the biography part of the profile. Usually you should put it next to the text describing a Sticker, but it should always be below the == Biography == heading and above the == Sources == heading.

Default Sticker: Originally created for American Patriots living 1773-1789 (see this G2G discussion), the sticker now has parameters that allow it to be used on the profile of any American Patriot. See the table of examples (below) for how the default sticker displays and examples using the parameters added in July 2021.
The image in the default sticker is the Betsy Ross Flag but the imagetext default is the less-specific "American Flag". Add "|imagetext=Betsy Ross Flag" to change it. If you use "US" in the imagetext, include the points (U.S.), since imagetext is primarily for screen readers (which may read US as "us" instead of "U-S").
The link in the default sticker's text is to the "Sources" heading for the profile, which is a required heading (see WikiTree guidelines). A source must be included either as an inline citation or in the source list for the profile, such as a citation to the Patriot's DAR record:
* [http://www.dar.org/ Daughters of the American Revolution], [http://services.dar.org/public/dar_research/search/ DAR-Genealogical Research Databases], database online, "Record of ...", Ancestor #[url number] (accessed... [date]).
Categories: This sticker does not add a category. You might want to add Category:NSSAR Patriot Ancestors and/or Category:NSDAR Patriot Ancestors as appropriate.
Other Stickers: American Patriots of the American Revolution can use either this sticker or the 1776 Sticker. A Patriot Ancestor recognized by the SAR can use the SAR sticker. The Society Ancestor sticker can be used for Patriot Ancestors recognized by the DAR (see the template page for details).
See the Military and War Project's help page: Stickers for Veterans for a list of wars with links to stickers that accommodate more details. See also the Veteran Recognition sticker.
